Stamping with watercolors by Kimber McGray

I've been watching some of our designers create some beautiful projects using watercolors or watered down Happy Hues paints and stamping.

IMG_9675
I went about trying this technique in 2 different ways. First, I used watercolors to paint inside of heat embossed, stamped images.

IMG_9668
Start by stamping the image with VersaMark or some other embossing ink pad. Then sprinkle with embossing powder and shake off the excess. I used a cream colored powder because I can't find my white embossing powder anywhere. Then heat it with a heat gun to melt the powder.

You can use any kind of cardstock. I just had plain old white cardstock that you can get at any craft store. If you have water color paper, the water will absorb differently.
IMG_9669
I painted inside the embossed image, not too carefully. I like it when the color goes beyond the image just a little. The embossed image will create a resist and you can wipe off the image with a paper towel when you are finished.

IMG_9670
I wanted to remove a little bit of the color. I used a wet baby wipe and dabbed at the image to lighten the yellow a bit.

IMG_9677Finally, just stamp the sentiment with regular ink and add a few gems.

Next, I went with painting the watercolors on the stamp directly for a muted/muddled image.

IMG_9666

IMG_9667
I found that the less water you added to the paint, the better. If you use too much water, it pools on the stamp and then on the cardstock. I used a dry paint brush to move some of the excess water around after it was stamped.

IMG_9676
I stamped the sentiment with regular ink and added a few wood veneer dots to finish the card.
Give this technique a try. I just used basic water color paints that my elementary aged daughter had in her school supplies. Nothing fancy at all.

Have a creative weekend!

Good Day, Sunshine! card by designer Patty Folchert

This card is all about tags and layers. Four different brand new tags and stamps from Hampton Art and some Jillibean Soup papers added in for a simple summer feel.

Good Day, Sunshine! card by Patty Folchert

I really love this kraft mason jar tag, I thought some dragonflies would look good inside the jar, so I stamped three in brown ink. Then I added a plain cotton string around the rim to add the small tag with the sunshine stamp, also in brown ink. Next I added the navy gingham to the center of the Letterpress tag for a little more color and that tag twine I tied into a bow. The fourth tag was the other half of a deco tag that I had used on a separate card this month. I stamped the sentiment in brown ink onto it as shown.

I think the result is a country fresh card, perfect for bringing sunshine to any day.

Summer dreaming,
Patty Folchert

Hello Neighbor card by designer Patty Folchert

Here is a friendly card suitable for a new neighbor. These new Hampton Art clear stamp set has really fun coloring book style images to stamp.

Hello Neighbor card by Patty Folchert

This card began with a gray woodgrain background paper and then I stamped the image directly onto watercolor paper in gray ink. Next I watercolor painted the image in a rainbow of colors and set aside to dry. Then I cut to mats in coordinating colors to layer behind the cut image piece.

I then grabbed a brand new deco tag in white and added the ‘hello” sticker from the Mushroom Medley collection sticker set. I cut the tag in half and attached as shown. Last I added the wood veneer heart onto the front door.

This card has a Dr. Seuss feel to it that I love, very playful and fun. It could be used for lots of different occasions too: housewarming, moving, adoption, encouragement, etc.

Your Neighbor,
Patty Folchert
